POLITICO | The U.N.'s climate change secretariat Friday warned of inaction over climate change and a widening gulf between climate negotiations and societal demands.
Releasing its annual report, the U.N. said in a statement that despite progress, "never has the gap between climate reality and action been wider. And never has the divide between the global negotiations and the demands of society been deeper."
"The postponement of COP 26 must not mean the postponement of climate action. Countries must still, as a matter of urgency, raise ambition on mitigation, adaptation and finance," wrote U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, adding this also means "ending support for industries that have no place in our energy future."
