Rusal presses Vladimir Potanin to shake up Norilsk after Arctic spill

FINANCIAL TIMES 🔒| Rusal has urged billionaire businessman Vladimir Potanin to overhaul the top management team at Norilsk Nickel and shift its headquarters to the site of a former gulag in Siberia to show it is serious about tackling safety and environmental issues.

In a statement, the Russian aluminium producer said a series of accidents, including a huge oil spill in the Arctic that has been compared to the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster, raised serious questions about the competence of senior executives to run Norilsk, one of the world’s biggest producers of nickel and palladium.
